Plot Summary/Synopsis
This is a twisted tale of intra-family rivalry and passion that revolves around Maria Hernandez. At 15 she is orphaned but the head of a wealthy family takes her in and makes her his ward.
Others within the extended family find the arrangement intolerable and the situation becomes even worse when Maria falls in love with one of the sons of her kindly benefactor. Despite intense opposition they are married and Maria falls pregnant but her husband is very jealous. Just how jealous his is revealed when he believes that Maria’s perfectly innocent embrace with his brother is the sign of something far deeper and he leaves her.
This drives Maria into a temporary bout of insanity and when the baby is born she gives it away and ends up in an asylum. Her husband, realizing his mistake, comes looking for her and takes her home but she can’t find her baby and her husband arranges to adopt another child.
Fifteen years later she is reunited with her child but her husband thinks the boy is actually her lover and family passions and rivalry flare once more.
