Plot Summary/Synopsis
Amor Real is a period telenovela which is set in 19th century Mexico. A story of romance and duplicity, the plot revolves around two star-crossed lovers, Matilde Peñalver y Beristain and Adolfo Solís. Matilda and Adolfo are madly in love, but their relationship seems doomed from the start. While Matilda is a member of the Mexican aristocracy, Adolfo is a penniless army soldier. Despite Matilda’s desperate pleas, her mother Augusta refuses to let the two be wed. Instead, Augusta forces Matilda to marry Manuel Fuentes Guerra in order to uphold the family’s reputation. To ensure that Matilda and Manuel remain separated, Augusta and her son Humberto manage to have Adolfo imprisoned. The devastated Matilda finally succumbs to her mother’s pressures and marries Manuel. Adolfo and Matilda are eventually reunited, but Matilda’s world is again turned upside down when she begins to fall in love with Manuel. Caught in a passionate love triangle, Matilda must fight for love and remain true to herself.
