Plot Summary/Synopsis

The plot of Alborada revolves around the beautiful Mary Hipólita Diaz, a young Mexican woman. Mary was separated from her parents as a child, and went to live with her grandmother, Doña Carlota, in the village of Santa Rita, Panama. When Doña Carlota arranges for her granddaughter to be married to Antonio in exchange for a sizable dowry, Hipólita’s life changes forever. Neither Hipólita nor Doña Carlota are aware that Antonio is impotent. Only Antonio’s mother, the malevolent Adelaida de Guzaman, is aware of her son’s condition and she is also aware that in order for him to inherit his uncle Prospero’s fortune, he must have a son. In order to secure the family fortune, Adelaida hires Luis Manrique Arellano to pose as Antonio and impregnate Hipólita. Time passes, and Hipólita eventually escapes the evil clutches of Adelaida. She travels to Mexico in search of the mysterious stranger who fathered her son. Amidst the historical backdrop of the Spanish Inquisition, Hipólita encounters adventure and romance as she fights to give her son the life he deserves.
